Scheme 3: Synthesis of ie/t-butyl 3-ethoxy-5,6-dihydropyrazine-l(2H)-carboxylate laTo a pre-made solution of triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (2.3 g, 0.012 mol) in anhydrous DCM (20 mL) was added 1.2a (2 g, 0.01 mol) at 0 C. After the addition was completed, the ice-bath was removed, and the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to RT and stirred for an additional hour (reaction progress monitored by LCMS). Upon completion of the reaction, a saturated solution of NaHC03 (500 mL) was slowly added to the reaction mixture and it was stirred for 5 min. The organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was further extracted with DCM (200 mL). The combined organic layers were subsequently washed with brine, dried over MgS04, filtered and further dried in vacuo to obtain the title intermediate la as viscous yellow oil.
