The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography using 1%-10% ethyl acetate in petroleum ether to afford 2-chloro-1-[4-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]piperazin-1-yl]ethan-1-one as a white solid (479 mg, 60%).
