The reaction mixture was added water so as to separate the organic layer,and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethylacetate) to obtain tert-butyl (3S)-4-(2-ethoxy-2-oxoethyl)-3-(methoxymethyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (2.3 g) as an oil.
